What Are the Different Types of Diabetes

Having diabetes means that your body can no longer produce the proper amount of insulin to help regulate your blood sugar levels.

Type 1 is an autoimmune condition where cells that produce insulin are destroyed.

Type 2 is a type where the body produces insulin, but does not use it effectively.

Gestational diabetes may begin during pregnancy and is a pregnancy-related form of diabetes. It increases the odds that your child will have diabetes at birth or develop it as he gets older. Gestational diabetes is becoming much more common nowadays, so be sure to speak with your doctor about your concerns and look into getting tested.  Taking care of your gestational diabetes may help to protect your child from juvenile diabetes.

Brittle diabetes is a from of type 1 (most often) where sugar swings can be great and unpredictable in spite of trying to manage diabetes with insulin.

Always consult your doctor about your medical concerns and conditions.  If you are concerned about diabetes, you can go to your doctor to get tested.
