Early Detection of Diabetes is Key

One of the goals of the American Diabetes Association, and indeed of anyone who wants to put an end to this disease is to get the word out to the public. A lot of people don't really know what diabetes is. They think it means people are consuming too much sugar or simply that they are overweight. Instead, what people need to know are facts and what to look for so that they can hopefully prevent being diagnosed with the disease themselves or at the very least, get an early diagnosis to prevent organ damage.

What You Need To Be Looking For

Knowing what causes Diabetes and what the early symptoms of Diabetes are will go a long way in helping people getting diagnosed early.

  1. Do you have a family history of diabetes?
  2. Are you overweight or classified as obese?
  3. Do you have high blood pressure?
  4. Do you smoke?
  5. Do you have tingling or numbness in your hands or feet?
  6. Does it take a long time for sores to heal?
  7. Are you frequently thirsty?
  8. Do you have the urge/need to urinate often?
  9. Are you constantly hungry and eating everything in site, but still losing weight?
  10. Are you more tired than normal?
  11. Do you become fatigued more easily?
  12. Are you more irritable than normal?
  13. Are you suffering from frequent yeast infections?
  14. Are you having problems with blurry vision?

What Do You Do Now?

If you found yourself answering yes to several of the above questions, or even just some of them, go ahead and have your physician test your glucose levels. It is an easy blood test and remember that knowledge is power. Being aware of the early symptoms of diabetes can lead you to an early diagnosis and can lead to a longer, more satisfying life.
